The Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) with support from Global Fund under the Covid-19 (wave1) Grant ZMB C19RM-1978 running up to December 2025 seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced persons to be appointed in the under listed positions:
DISTRICT EPIDEMIOLOGIST (10)
Location: Western and Southern Provinces
Reports to: District Health Director
Job Purpose:
To effectively support the public health security systems at District level in order to strengthen preparedness, detection and response to public health threats through improved surveillance data quality practices and enhanced data use for action. The incumbent will also mentor FETP residents and provide oversight to the implementation of Pan-Respiratory Disease Surveillance (PRDS) activities at District level.
Responsibilities/Principal Accountabilities

- Effectively collaborate with the District Health Office (DHO) team to support implementation of surveillance activities at district and facility level in order to ensure timely detection of public health threats.
- Strengthen timely data management by supporting data collection from various sources and its storage, analysis and interpretation in order to facilitate decision making.
- Participate in planning and budgeting for surveillance activities in the District in order to ensure availability of resources for activity implementation.
- To undertake timely tracking of national and subnational IDSR and other surveillance (sentinel, etc.) indicators
- Support capacity building through training and supportive supervision to health facility staff and Community Based Volunteers (CBV) participating in surveillance activities.
- Ensure coordinated and adequate response to public health threats and events in order to effectively respond to outbreaks.
- Timely provision of technical support to investigate public health alerts/events, conduct field assessments/investigations and implement surveillance were indicated.
- Generate evidence on surveillance implementation for public health planning and policy.
- Effective and timely dissemination of surveillance data to all stakeholders
- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Required Qualifications

- Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate with five (5) O’ Levels including English, Mathematics and Science required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, nursing Clinical Medicine or other related health field
- A Master’s Degree in Epidemiology, Public Health or other related health fields
Experience and skills
-
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in quantitative epidemiology and the implementation of public health surveillance, outbreak investigation and response in humanitarian settings, and/or implementation IDSR
- Experience in writing technical reports
- Experience working with and on Donor funded projects is an added advantage
